HELEN'S Fashion Through the Ages & High Tea March 09
Members of the Bendigo Newcomers have enjoyed several get-togethers during the first quarter of 2009. Saturday 21st February members enjoyed a progressive dinner at the homes of Aileen, Jenny and Kevin, and Brenda and Charles. Hosts were delighted to receive a special thank-you card from the committee.
On 28th February several members enjoyed a concert in Rosalind Park performed by Orchestra Victoria. While in March a fun time was had at Helen O’Donoghue’s Eaglehawk home, with Helen graciously greeting guests as her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Helen had set-up a display of fashion, many from her own family, over a period of more than a century. As well as a walk down memory lane, it was also a reminder of the days when people loved to dress up and look their best. All enjoyed a splendid afternoon tea contributed by members. Thank you Helen.
Sunday 29th March more than 30 members, with several new members, enjoyed lunch and music at the Marong Hotel. The monthly morning tea at The Puddler was well attended, and a movie evening was arranged by Chris, and drinks at the Winebank, by Michelle.
As newcomers to Bendigo, Charles and I are very impressed with the outings arranged for members and the initiative of those who plan them. It is a pleasure to find so many people who love to relax and enjoy the company of others.
Warm regards, Brenda and Charles Stevens-Chambers

Mystery Tour
The first spring outing for the Bendigo Newcomers Club found a full compliment of 21 newcomers to the area enjoying the delights of a mystery tour.
Secret destinations and home baked biscuits arranged by Peter (Bendigo Discovery Tours) kept everyone guessing and resulted in squeals of delight as we made our way to the Tahbilk Estate to sample some of their 94 gold, 268 silver and 962 Bronze medal wines.
Boarding the Major Mitchell upon the Goulburn river and partaking of a delicious BBQ lunch, we headed upstream for the grandeur of Mitchelton winery and its tower lookout.
Back on the Major Mitchell for a selection of sweets and coffee and a leisurely drift downriver before sampling the assorted roastings at the Nagambie Nuthouse.
By now the newcomers were firm friends and insisted that Michelle and Karen who had arranged the outing, take a couple of bows and accept the sincere thanks of a grateful group for a wonderful day of food, wine and making friends.
